Orthopedics

A branch of medicine that studies the mechanisms, development, and treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system. Traumatology is closely related to this discipline. Orthopedic diseases are often congenital or begin in early childhood. Because the developing child’s body is particularly prone to musculoskeletal disorders, pediatric orthopedics is a separate field. Sports orthopedics, devoted to occupational diseases in athletes, is also distinguished.
