A branch of medicine that studies the physiological and anatomical features of the eye and treats diseases of the eye and its adnexa (eyelids, lacrimal organs, and mucous membrane). Pediatric ophthalmology is a branch devoted to the features of children’s vision. Unlike the adult visual system, a child’s visual system is constantly developing, so it requires a separate area of ophthalmology.
Refractometry
WHAT IS IT? An objective measurement of the eye’s refraction using modern specialized equipment. The method examines the refractive power of the eyeball’s optical system along its longitudinal axis. Computerized equipment is used to examine refraction. The procedure is completely safe and painless, causes no discomfort, and takes no more than 2–3 minutes.
IN OPHTHALMOLOGICAL PRACTICE, REFRACTOMETRY IS PERFORMED: To confirm normal eye refraction (emmetropia) To determine clinical refractive errors (hyperopia, astigmatism, myopia) To diagnose age-related changes in the accommodative ability of the eye.
